One key press is always one action on one character. The add-on never casts, targets, follows or moves for you.
Install
Easiest: get WoWBoxer on CurseForge and let the CurseForge app install it and keep it up to date. It is a beta, so new versions arrive often.
By hand:
- Download the zip from CurseForge (Files tab) and unpack the WoWBoxer folder into your AddOns folder:
- Forever:
World of Warcraft\_forever_\Interface\AddOns - Classic Era:
World of Warcraft\_classic_era_\Interface\AddOns
- Forever:
- Restart the game (a
/reloadis not enough for a new add-on). - On the character screen, open AddOns and check that WoWBoxer is ticked.
- In the game, type
/wbx.
All clients from one WoW install share this folder, so you install the add-on once per game, not once per client.
Your first 3 steps
The first time you open it on a character, a short guide appears.
- Who is this character? Choose its role, and whether it leads or follows. A follower also picks whom it follows (
party1–party4orfocus). - Put your keys on your bar. Drag keys one by one, or press Place all. The add-on tells you where they go and what they replace. Their icons fly to the buttons.
- Done. WoWBoxer tells you when a level-up changes a key.
The book
/wbx, the minimap button or the Addon Compartment (Forever) opens a book that works like your spellbook.
- Drag any key to any action button. Keys you move stay where you put them.
- Hover a key to see what it does, in plain words, plus the macro text.
- Right-click a key: Pick up, Bind key…, Leave out.
- The line at the top always says the next thing to do, with the button that does it.
Bookmarks on the right:
| Bookmark | What's there |
|---|---|
| My keys | The recommended keys for your level, helpers (Follow, Assist, Focus, pet keys) and optional sequence keys |
| All spells | Every spell you know. Drag one out to make an extra key |
| Custom keys | Build your own key from several spells |
| Talents | The guide's point order for your level. On Forever also what you have actually spent |
| Setup | Which bars your keys use, window size, animations, multibox checklist, recommended game settings (with backup), recommended add-ons |
| Squad | Your characters, their roles and who leads |
| Share | Copy your squad as a !WBX:1! string to your other characters, the Companion or the website |
When you level
On level-up, the add-on offers Update keys. The same buttons get the new spells. Nothing changes until you click, and never in combat.
Your squad
Set the squad up once and share it:
- On one client, open Squad and add your characters (name, class, role, who leads).
- Open Share and copy the
!WBX:1!string. - On each other client, open Share, paste the string and check the preview. Nothing changes until you press Import squad.
Each client recognises its own character in the squad. Followers' keys assist the leader through the unit you chose. If the leader sits on another party unit on that client, the add-on suggests the right one.
Team status (optional)
A small panel can show which of your clients lost follow, has another target than the leader, or is low on mana. It only displays information. It never acts. Turn it off with /wbx team off.

Rules
| It does | It never does |
|---|---|
| Writes its own macros (names start with WBX) after your click, out of combat | Touches any other macro |
| Puts keys on your bars and binds keys when you ask | Casts, targets, follows, moves or accepts anything |
| Shows team status from your own clients | Uses messages between clients to trigger actions |
| Imports squad strings as data | Runs code from an imported string |
| Free and open source | Ads or donation requests in the game |
Blizzard's add-on policy requires add-ons to be free and their code visible. WoWBoxer is both. What's allowed.
Known limits
- On Classic Era the add-on uses Forever's class data, filtered by the spells you really know. Talent trees differ there.
- Bar add-ons (Bartender, ElvUI and similar) use their own buttons. Keys still work, but the "fly to the bar" animation is skipped.
- Warriors, Druids and Rogues get their keys on the Bottom Left and Bottom Right bars, because bar 1 changes with stance or form.
Unconfirmed
The add-on is in beta (v0.9.2) and tested on Classic Era 1.15.9 and the Forever client before launch. Some Forever details can only be checked on the live servers; we update this page after launch week.
