FAQ

Quick answers about manual multiboxing in World of Warcraft: Forever and Classic Era: rules, costs, tools, squad size and privacy.

Rules

Is multiboxing allowed?

Yes. Blizzard says playing several accounts at once is not a violation of its EULA. Copying one key press to several clients (input broadcasting), or automating play, is not allowed. Read what's allowed.

Is this a bot?

No. Every action is a key press you make, in that client. WoWBoxer tools never send input to the game.

Can I get banned for multiboxing?

Blizzard bans input broadcasting and automation, and can close accounts for them. WoWBoxer does neither. Multiboxing the WoWBoxer way follows the one rule: one key press = one action, on one character, in one window. What's allowed, with Blizzard's own words.

How do I switch between windows?

With hover to activate, the WoWBoxer way: the window under the mouse becomes the active one. Point at a follower, press your key, point back at your main window. It is a built-in Windows setting and sends nothing to the game, so one key press is still one action on one character. The window app has a switch for it. Set it up.

What does the window app do?

It opens your WoW clients and moves, sizes and pins their windows. If you turn them on, it also sets Windows' hover setting and one UI Scale value (with a backup). It never sends keys or clicks to the game, never reads game memory, never logs in for you and sends no telemetry. More about the app.

Are there special rules for Forever?

We found none (27 Oct 2026). Forever is part of the World of Warcraft subscription, so we assume the general policy applies.

Costs and accounts

Do I need a subscription for every account?

Yes. Every game account needs its own subscription or game time. Forever is included.

Can several game accounts share one Battle.net login?

Yes, they then appear in the account dropdown above Play. In the Forever beta, some players could not have two of them online at once. We will test this at launch.

Does WoWBoxer cost anything?

No. Everything is free, with no ads and no paid tiers. The code is open source under the MIT License. Donations are welcome but never required.

Community and support

Is there a Discord?

Yes, a WoWBoxer Discord opens for the Forever launch. Ask for help, share your squad and layout, and hear first when a guide or tool changes.

Can I support WoWBoxer?

Yes, if you want to. Donations help pay for the domain, code signing and the time that goes into guides and tools. They never unlock anything: every tool and guide stays free for everyone. Support WoWBoxer.

Will the add-on ask me for money?

No. Blizzard's add-on policy keeps donation requests out of the game, and we keep them out of our apps too. You will only find the support link on this website and on GitHub.

Squads

How many characters can I box?

Two or more. Most people run 2–5, because a party holds five. Your PC sets the real limit. The window app handles 2–8 clients, and the Companion supports squads of up to 10.

Which classes box well?

All nine can. Self-healing leaders (Paladin) and followers with ranged damage or pets (Warlock, Hunter, Mage, Priest) are the easiest start. See squad guides.

Does it work in Classic Era?

Yes. The steps are the same, and our tools were tested there first. Pick Classic Era in Battle.net and in the window app.

Do I need the add-on or the Companion?

No. You can write the macros yourself. The tools just save time and keep your keys up to date when you level.

Tools

Which tool should I start with?

The guide. Then the Companion or the add-on for macros. Add the window app if placing windows by hand gets old.

Does the Companion upload my squads?

No. Squads stay in your own browser. Use Export and Import (JSON) to move them between devices.

Does the window app send anything about me?

No telemetry, no accounts. An installed copy checks GitHub for updates when it starts. You can switch that off. Privacy.

Windows warns me about the installer

Until our code signing is approved, Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC". Click More info › Run anyway, or build it yourself from the source on GitHub.

Should I use a team add-on for follow and quest sharing?

Other free add-ons already cover things like follow alerts and quest sharing, so we don't copy them. We haven't tested them and don't recommend any. Whatever you install, the same rule applies: every action must be your own key press.

Can WoWBoxer log in my accounts for me?

No, and it never will. You press Play and log in yourself.
