The words we use across WoWBoxer, always with the same meaning.
Multiboxing – Playing several of your own WoW accounts at the same time. Also "boxing", "dual-boxing" (two) or "5-boxing" (five).
Manual multiboxing – Multiboxing where every key press does one action on one character, in the window you are in. The only kind WoWBoxer supports.
Squad – The characters you play together, from two upward.
Leader – The character you steer for real. It picks targets, pulls and leads the party.
Follower – A character that follows the leader and attacks or heals the leader's target, through its macros.
Client – One running copy of the game, in its own window.
Game account – One WoW licence. Several can sit under one Battle.net login and show up in Battle.net's account dropdown.
Battle.net account – Your login for the Battle.net app. It can hold several game accounts.
Layout – Where each client's window sits on your screens, and how big it is.
Preset – A built-in layout in the window app, such as Main + side or Grid.
Main window – The biggest window, usually the leader's.
Macro – A small text script in WoW that runs game commands such as /cast or /follow when you press its key. One press runs it once.
Macro kit – All the macros for one character: attacks, heals, follow and assist.
Key – One macro in the kit, on one key of your keyboard ("Key 1").
Sequence key – A macro with /castsequence. Each press casts the next spell in its list.
Priority key – A macro with several /cast lines. Each press casts the first spell in the list that is ready.
/follow – Makes your character follow a target. Ends when you move that character yourself.
/assist – Targets whatever your target (or the named unit) is targeting.
party1–party4 – The other members of your party, as seen from the client you are in. The leader can be party1 on one follower and party2 on another.
focus – A second target you set with /focus. Some boxers set the leader as focus on each follower.
Mouseover – The unit under your mouse pointer. Macros can aim at it with [@mouseover].
Input broadcasting – Software or hardware that copies one key press or action to several clients. Not allowed.
Streamlining – Blizzard's word, from "automate or streamline multiboxing in any way". Blizzard has not defined it.
Hover to activate – A Windows setting, "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse": the window under your mouse pointer becomes the active one. The WoWBoxer way to switch between clients. It sends nothing to the game.
Round-robin – A tool that switches to the next window for you after every key press. WoWBoxer never does this.
UI Scale – WoW's setting for the size of its interface. Lowering it makes the action bar fit in small windows.
Windowed – WoW's Display Mode where the game runs in a normal window that can be moved and resized.
Windowed (Fullscreen) – A borderless window that fills the screen. It can't be placed by tools.
SavedVariables – Files where add-ons store their settings on your PC.
WBX macro – A macro created by the WoWBoxer add-on. Its name starts with "WBX". The add-on never touches other macros.
Forever – World of Warcraft®: Forever, launching 4 Nov 2026. Our main game.
Classic Era – The original-style WoW Classic realms. Our test bed and second home.
