Windows
My windows don't move
- Display Mode is not Windowed. In each game: Options › Graphics › Display Mode › Windowed. Forever starts in "Windowed (Fullscreen)" and maximises itself again after a move.
- Battle.net or WoW runs as administrator. Windows then blocks other programs from moving the game. Close everything and start Battle.net normally (not "Run as administrator"). The window app warns you when it sees this.
- The window app doesn't see the game. Open Settings › Diagnose in the app. The report lists every WoW window it found.
A window jumps back or changes size
WoW resizes itself while it loads. The window app keeps placing each new window for about 30 seconds, so it settles. If one still jumps, press Re-arrange (F5) once the game has loaded.
The UI looks too big or too small after moving a window
Keep the title bars on (the window app's default). In our tests, WoW sometimes drew its action bars at the wrong size after the title bar was removed.
Black bars around a small window
The window is too narrow for its height. Keep every window at least 5:4 (1.25 times as wide as it is tall). The window app's Window rules can enforce this, and its presets keep sensible shapes.
The leader's window covers a follower
Overlapping layouts need Always on top on the followers. In the window app, click the pin on each follower. Leave the leader itself off "on top".
Action bars
The ends of the action bar are cut off
The game picture is narrower than 4:3. Fix it in one of two ways:
- Make the window wider, or
- Lower the UI Scale. Rule of thumb: UI Scale ≤ 0.75 × width ÷ height.
All clients of one install share one UI Scale, so use the value your smallest window needs. In the window app, Auto-fit action bar (on by default) works out the value and writes it while the games are closed. More in Quest 4.
I changed UI Scale, but it went back
WoW saves its settings when a client closes, and the last client to close wins. Close all clients, set it once (or let the window app's Auto-fit action bar do it), then start them again.
Switching windows
Hover to activate switches windows while I type
The setting reacts whenever the pointer rests on another window, also while you type in chat. Keep the mouse inside the window you type in, or switch the setting off in the window app (or its tray menu) when you aren't boxing.
Key presses go to the wrong window
Let the mouse rest on the window before you press a key. The Delay in the window app is how long the pointer has to rest before a window becomes active; about 30 ms works for most people. Windows switch while the mouse only passes over them? Raise the delay a little. Switching feels slow? Lower it.
Party and macros
A follower stops following
Follow ends when the follower moves on its own, gets too far away or the leader mounts a flight path. Press the follow key again in that window. Check that party1 (or focus) is still your leader.
A follower attacks the wrong target
The follower's macros use the wrong unit. On the follower, type /target party1. If that is not the leader, change party1 in its macros to the right unit (party2, party3 … or focus). The Companion and the add-on let you choose the unit per follower.
My macro won't save
WoW macros hold 255 characters. Kits from the Companion and the add-on always fit. If you edit one by hand, check the length.
The add-on says "No free macro slot"
You have used every macro slot for that character. Delete a macro you no longer use, then press Place all again. The add-on only ever changes macros whose names start with WBX.
Accounts
Logging in a second account logs out the first
Battle.net logs in the game account that is selected in its dropdown. Pick the next game account before you press Play again.
Unconfirmed
In the Forever beta, some players could not have two game accounts from one Battle.net login online together. If this happens at launch, use a separate Battle.net login for the extra accounts.
Still stuck?
- In the window app: Settings › Diagnose writes a report. It hides your Windows user name. Look it over before you share it: window titles can contain character names.
- In the game:
/wbx logshows the add-on's log. - Then ask on the WoWBoxer Discord: say what you tried and, if you can, attach the report. Help & feedback shows the right channel.
