Multiboxing software for WoW

The tools people use for multiboxing in World of Warcraft, sorted by what they do: the kind Blizzard bans, window tools, and in-game AddOns. Facts from each tool's own page.

Short answer: software that copies one key press to several game windows (input broadcasting) is banned in World of Warcraft. Tools that only arrange your windows, and free AddOns inside the game, are what manual multiboxers use. Every action still has to come from your own key press, in one window.

We make two of the tools below, so read this as a fan overview, not a neutral review. Tool details are from each tool's own page, checked on 27 Oct 2026; prices and features change, so check the tool's page before you pay for anything.

The rule every tool is measured against

Multiboxing, or playing multiple World of Warcraft accounts at once, is not a violation of our End User License Agreement. Please note, however, that use of all software or hardware mechanisms used to mirror commands to multiple World of Warcraft accounts at the same time, or to automate or streamline multiboxing in any way may result in account penalties.

Input broadcasting tools

These copy one key press (or mouse click) from one window to several. That is exactly what Blizzard banned for World of Warcraft in November 2020, and in May 2021 the ban was extended to hardware that does the same.

Tool What it does Price
ISBoxer (Lavish Software) A multiboxing suite: launcher, window layouts, views, key maps. Its homepage still lists a "Broadcasting mode". isboxer.com (opens in a new tab) ISBoxer is free but needs Inner Space, $50 a year
HotkeyNet A free, script-based hotkey and key-sending tool. AlternativeTo (opens in a new tab) Free
Keyclone A key-cloning tool. We found no current information. –
Hardware: keyboards and mice that send to several windows, KVM sync Mirrors input in hardware instead of software. –

In World of Warcraft, don't use the broadcasting part of any of these. Blizzard can warn, suspend and close accounts for it.

Window tools

These start your clients and put the windows where you want them. They don't press keys in the game. Note that Blizzard has never listed any third-party tool as approved, so read each tool's own description of what it does.

Tool What it does Price Notes
WoWBoxer Window Layouts (ours) Opens your WoW clients and places 1–10 windows on one or more monitors; a switch for Windows' own hover-to-activate setting; sizes UI Scale so the action bar fits. Never sends keys or clicks to the game. Free, open source (MIT) Windows 10 and 11, updates itself
WowOpenBox (opens in a new tab) An open-source window layout wizard with window swap and focus hotkeys. Removed its round-robin feature in July 2025 "to ensure full compliance". Free, open source Windows
Joe Multiboxer (opens in a new tab) (Lavish Software) Lavish's tool "without input broadcasting": window layouts, swap hotkeys, focus-follows-mouse and plugins. Needs Gaming Tools Pro, $50 a year –
PowerToys FancyZones (opens in a new tab) (Microsoft) A general Windows zone manager: draw zones and snap any window into them. Free Not made for WoW: no idea which window is which character
Your own scripts (PowerShell, AutoHotkey) Some players write scripts that launch and place their clients. Free Keep them to window placement: a script that sends keys is broadcasting

Switching between windows: WoWBoxer players use hover to activate. It is a setting that is part of Windows ("Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse"): the window under the mouse becomes the active one, and your next key press goes to that window only. It sends nothing to the game. How to set it up.

In-game AddOns

AddOns run inside each client. Blizzard's AddOn policy says they must be free and their code open, and the game itself blocks AddOns from casting, targeting or moving for you.

AddOn What it does Forever Notes
WoWBoxer AddOn (ours) Builds the right keys for each character's class, role and level, puts them on your bars after your click, and offers updates when a level-up changes a key. Squad setup, sequence keys, follow and assist keys. Yes Free, open source (MIT), on CurseForge
Mama-forever (MAMA) (opens in a new tab) A Forever-only multibox AddOn: team pairing, a follow/assist key, follow train, quest and dialog sync, team sell list and loot routing (from its own page). Yes Free, LGPLv3; updated 25 Oct 2026
Multibox Follower Helper (opens in a new tab) Sound cues for follow and health, and quest sharing, from the author of GTFO. Yes Free; updated 15 Oct 2026
EMA (opens in a new tab) (Ebony's Multiboxing Assistant) The successor to Jamba: team bars, quest sync, follow, vendoring. Says it has "no Broadcasting or in game automation". Not listed Free; Retail, Classic, MoP and TBC; updated 3 Feb 2026
BoxTrack (opens in a new tab) A small Classic Era and Hardcore helper: status panel, macro generator, setup wizard by role pair. No Free; Aug 2026
Jamba The original team AddOn. No Last updated July 2019; replaced by EMA

You can use several AddOns together. If two of them make follow or assist keys, use one set so your bars don't fill up with duplicates.

What we use, and why

WoWBoxer is two free tools that do different jobs and never play for you:

  • The window app puts every window in its place and turns on hover to activate, so pointing at a window is all it takes to switch.
  • The AddOn gives each character its keys for its class, role and level, so the same key does the same job on every character.

Then you play every character yourself: point at a window, press one key, point at the next. Our setup guide walks through it from your game accounts to your first pull.

FAQ

Is ISBoxer allowed in WoW?

Its input broadcasting is not: Blizzard bans software that mirrors one key press to several World of Warcraft clients, and ISBoxer's homepage still lists a broadcasting mode. Blizzard has not said anything about ISBoxer's other features.

Do I need paid software to multibox?

No. Windows, free AddOns and free window tools are enough. WoWBoxer's window app and AddOn are free and open source, with no paid tiers.

Which multibox AddOn works in WoW Forever?

On CurseForge's Forever flavour (checked 27 Oct 2026): the WoWBoxer AddOn, Mama-forever and Multibox Follower Helper. EMA does not list Forever.

What about my own AutoHotkey script?

A script that only starts and places windows sends nothing to the game. A script that sends keys to the game, to several windows or on a timer is input broadcasting or automation, which Blizzard bans.
