AddOn guide · World of Warcraft®: Forever and Classic Era

The WoWBoxer AddOn, step by step

From install to your first squad keys on the bar. Do it once on each character; after that, the AddOn tells you when a level-up changes a key.

  • 7 quests, no scripting
  • The AddOn writes macros and puts them on your bars only after your click, and never in combat

Before you start

  • World of Warcraft®: Forever or Classic Era, installed once. All clients from one install share the AddOns folder.
  • Your squad's characters, logged in or at least created.
  • What the AddOn can do, in one page: WoWBoxer AddOn.

Quest 1 of 7Install the AddOn

5 min

Easiest: get WoWBoxer on CurseForge and let the CurseForge app install it and keep it up to date. It is a beta, so new versions arrive often.

By hand:

  1. Download the zip from CurseForge (Files tab) and unpack the WoWBoxer folder into your AddOns folder:
    • Forever: World of Warcraft\_forever_\Interface\AddOns
    • Classic Era: World of Warcraft\_classic_era_\Interface\AddOns
  2. Restart the game (a /reload is not enough for a new AddOn).
  3. On the character screen, open AddOns and check that WoWBoxer is ticked.

You install the AddOn once per game, not once per client.

Quest 2 of 7Your first /wbx

3 min

Type /wbx in the game, or click the minimap button (on Forever also the Addon Compartment). A book opens that works like your spellbook. The first time on a character, a short guide appears:

  1. Who is this character? Choose its role, and whether it leads or follows. A follower also picks whom it follows (party1–party4 or focus).
  2. Put your keys on your bar. Drag keys one by one, or press Place all. The AddOn tells you where they go and what they replace.
  3. Done. WoWBoxer tells you when a level-up changes a key.

The line at the top of the book always says the next thing to do, with the button that does it.

Quest 3 of 7Set up your squad

5 min

Open the Squad bookmark. It holds the characters you play together, everyone's role and who leads.

  1. Invite your characters into a party, then add them all with one click, or add characters by name.
  2. Pick the leader and each character's role.
  3. Choose your squad keys: Invite squad, Follow, Assist, Target leader, Focus and pet keys.

Followers' keys assist the leader through party1–party4 or focus. You still press each key yourself, in each window.

Quest 4 of 7Place your keys

3 min

My keys shows the keys WoWBoxer recommends for this character's class, role and level.

  1. Press Place all, or drag any key onto any action button. Keys you move stay where you put them.
  2. Hover a key to see what it does. Right-click it to bind a key or leave it out.
  3. Need another spell? All spells lists every spell, including the ones you learn later. Drag one onto your bar; a spell you haven't learned yet starts working when you do.

Setup shows which bars your keys go on. Warriors, Druids and Rogues get their keys on the Bottom Left and Bottom Right bars, because bar 1 changes with stance or form.

Quest 5 of 7Sequence keys

2 min

A sequence key casts the next spell of your rotation each time you press it. One press is still one spell.

  1. Tick Use sequence keys.
  2. Pick Simple, Medium or Advanced.
  3. Place the key. It gets the main spell's icon, and a strip of small step icons on the action button frames the next spell.

Want your own? Custom keys builds a key from several spells, in the in-game editor.

Quest 6 of 7When you level

1 min

When a level-up or a new spell changes a key, it gets an orange dot. One click updates it: same button, same key binding, new spell. Nothing changes until you click, and never in combat.

The top line also tells you when to visit a trainer and when you have talent points to spend. Talents shows the guide's point order for your level.

Quest 7 of 7Share with your other characters

3 min

Set your squad up once, then send it to the others.

  1. On the character where you set it up, press Send squad to my party.
  2. On each of your other characters, review the squad and import it with a click.

Or open Share, copy the !WBX:1! text string, and paste it in Share on another character. Check the preview, then import. Imported text is only data; the AddOn never runs code from it.

Troubleshooting

The AddOn doesn't show up

Restart the game after installing (a /reload is not enough), and check that WoWBoxer is ticked under AddOns on the character screen.

The minimap button is gone

Type /wbx minimap to show it again. /wbx always opens the book.

The window is too big or in the wrong place

/wbx scale 0.9 changes the size (Setup also has a size option). /wbx reset puts the window back in place.

Keys don't fly to my bars

Bar AddOns (Bartender, ElvUI and similar) use their own buttons. Your keys still work, but the "fly to the bar" animation is skipped.

"No free macro slot"

You have used every macro slot for that character. Delete a macro you no longer use, then press Place all again. More in Troubleshooting.
