Leader or follower?

As the leader (on the big window): Flexible.

As a follower: Totems buff the whole party; heals or casts.

The leader is the character you play “for real”: it pulls and picks targets. Followers assist it and follow it. The WoWBoxer AddOn builds the right keys for a Shaman in either role, for your level.

Best duo partners for a Shaman

Our own ratings of every pair with a Shaman, best first. S plays itself; D wants your attention on both windows at once. How we rate pairs.

  • Tier S: Shaman + Warlock

The Voidwalker tanks, the shaman heals and drops totems, and the warlock's dots do the rest.

The Shaman leads. The shaman needs more buttons and positioning, so it gets the big window; the warlock follows and works from the small one.

  • Tier A: Shaman + Warrior

The warrior tanks, the shaman heals and drops Windfury Totem, the best buff a warrior can get.

The Warrior leads. The warrior needs more buttons and positioning, so it gets the big window; the shaman follows and works from the small one.

  • Tier A: Shaman + Paladin

Plenty of healing and a rez on both sides; the paladin holds the mobs and Windfury makes it hit harder.

The Shaman leads. The shaman needs more buttons and positioning, so it gets the big window; the paladin follows and works from the small one.

  • Tier A: Shaman + Hunter

The pet tanks and the shaman heals; both can fight from range, so nobody has to run around much.

The Shaman leads. The shaman needs more buttons and positioning, so it gets the big window; the hunter follows and works from the small one.

  • Tier A: Shaman + Priest

Lots of healing and two ways to rez, but nothing dedicated holds the mobs.

The Shaman leads. The shaman needs more buttons and positioning, so it gets the big window; the priest follows and works from the small one.

  • Tier A: Shaman + Druid

Two hybrids: the druid tanks in bear form and the shaman heals, with a rez on both sides.

The Druid leads. Both are light on buttons; the druid leads because it holds the mobs, and the shaman follows and heals.

  • Tier B: Shaman + Shaman

Two shamans heal and rez each other, but their totems of the same type replace each other.

Either can lead. Same class: put the one you play best on the big window; the other follows with /follow and /assist.

  • Tier B: Shaman + Mage

The shaman heals and the mage deals the damage, but nothing really holds the mobs and both need buttons.

The Mage leads. The mage needs more buttons and positioning, so it gets the big window; the shaman follows and works from the small one.

  • Tier C: Shaman + Rogue

Heals and Windfury for the rogue, but nothing really holds the mobs and the rogue needs your attention.

The Rogue leads. The rogue always leads: it has to stand behind the target and open from stealth. The shaman follows and assists.
